My gown and some knitting

Hey all...
Here is a picture of my finished gown.  Front and Back.  I loved making it, unfortunately, with all the commotion of wedding planning and my new anti-dep meds I lost 15 lbs.  So fun figuring out how to take in a crochet dress......ahem....so anyways, here she is:

I've started knitting Multnomah (rav link).  Love it!  I got to learn a new technique...the "long tail cast-on".  Once I learned how to do it, it went fairly well.  Not sure I prefer it to a regular cast-on.
I'm using Bernat Sox in Wooded Dennim.  Soft and works up well in this pattern. 
I've discovered how much I love knitting.  It's precision, just like I love crocheting.

All Married and Stuff....

I'm so excited.  Out wedding is over and now we're married.  Not sure yet if it really changes anything, but only time will tell.  I'm recovering today and resting up for work tomorrow.  Have no fear I will be going to Costa Rica for my cousin's wedding and our honeymoon.  Short and sweet today, photos of my dress and shawl to follow.

Knitting Craze

I'm not really sure what happened, or how....I think it may have something to do with all the crocheting that I'm doing and have done for the wedding.  I have two bridesmaids' bags complete, two more to go, my "pineapple gauntlets" are done and the pattern written.  I will post it soon on ravelry and here on my blog.  I just have to fix up the pictures.
I think I've burned out on crochet.  I haven't finished my shawl yet, and time is running out.  After it's finished, then I have to block it....UGH!
Okay, so I'm attempting my first "feather and fan" pattern.  I thought it would be too hard, but I already have it memorized....makes me happy.
I'm using Patons Kroy Socks Jacquards in Lavender Jacquard.  Love it.  So much going on, but the pattern is still visible.  Once it's blocked, it will look great (I hope).

Pictures pictures

With the crochet part of my wedding gown having been completed, I figured I should take some pictures of it.  The pictures are of it unblocked.  I plan to do some light blocking to help maintain its shape while I wear it.

 This is a picture of the neckline of the dress.  All the details about yarn, hook size, and pattern can be found either on this blog entry or here on my Ravelry Project Page.
If you click on the photo, it should enlarge so you can see where I added the beading.  This is the front of the dress folded over and the back is peaking out slightly from behind.

This is the back of the dress.  Still unblocked, I have to try it on a few more times, so I'm waiting before I wash it (carefully) and gently block it.

 

This is a picture of the extra piece that I inserted under the armhole.  The pattern called for a rather large gap to be there, as you can see, I filled in quite a bit.  I just followed along with the stitch pattern.  It doesn't look great so close, but when I'm wearing the dress you don't see it at all.

Now I have some more pictures for you today.  I went picture crazy yesterday.  I tried to touch them up to show the real colors as well.  They are still slightly off.

This is the center that you can see here.  The shawl is made in one piece, but you attach at the starting side once you have half the length that you desire.  It's a powdery blue color, and that is the main theme color of the wedding.

Here is a close up of the edging which is the Celestial Edging.  It's quite lovely, and once blocked really add some more "umph" to the shawl, make it a little more special.  I added some silver and gold beading to the tips, but they are fairly well concealed , maybe they will show up better upon blocking; we shall see....

Wedding Dress, Complete !

Can I just say, gosh?  I have never worked so hard on anything as I have on this dress/gown,  but I'm so in love with it....I'm amazed that I can even do anything like this.

I have a few pictures that are only of the front, and I will have some more pictures later.  Right now I'm just using the extra time for beading.....BY HAND....

Xmas over and Wedding continues

Now that I'm finished with Christmas...at least the hooky/needle-ee part, it's time to bring my attention about 98% towards my wedding. The other 2% is for miscellaneous knitting and/or crocheting. I'm crocheting my dress for the wedding. I'm so very excited. I'm almost half way complete. I had originally thought to create my own, but that task is far too daunting for me. So, instead I've decided to be vintagely inspired and I will be using the 1930's Inspired Gown pattern (rav link). I'm using Naturally Caron Spa Yarn in the "Naturally" colorway. I love this yarn; it's very soft and has a really great draping quality to it. I'm also using a size B/2 hook to maintain gauge. Wish me luck! I will post pics as I move along

Now, onto wedding stuff...I really hope some people will comment with helpful ideas. I want to stay away from flowers in my centerpieces. My wedding is in March. I was thinking, candles, feathers, beads, fancy sticks, and other vintage inspired things.

Here is a sample from someone's party that I found online. Something small, well constructed and slightly vintage inspired. Since I plan to make them myself I need something that is scatter-brain proof.....I have lots of things swirling in my small mind, but I think I can consolidate. Any cool ideas about vintage for a wedding are greatly appreciated.

"It's been a while.....since" the last time I posted

No excuses from me, but I will give you a list of what I've been up to....
We decided to repaint our bedroom, finally, we've been putting it off because of the work that we would have to invest. So, the previous owners put up some kind of border along the top of the walls (all of them) and it's a texture. The stuff was like cement. We sanded for hours...needless to say, we could not get it anywhere near as flat as the wall and there was approximately five coats of paint on top of it. We (er....me) then spackled to try and fill in whatever gaps were in between the "stipples". Then it was time to......any guesses.....yes, that's right.....SAND. So we sanded the spackle nice and smooth. Then we applied primer. Then we painted the ceiling. Today we painted the first wall color, which is the main color that will be on three of the walls. Tomorrow we will paint the accent color. I will include pictures when it's all done.
I started a shawl pattern, that I don't have the specs for at the moment, but when it's done I will add them. I'm still working on my Lacy Shawl (RAV link) and I've been naughty because I haven't finished my March square yet....and March is almost over...yikes fits well here, I suppose. The square is from the 2009 12" CAL on Ravelry.
I recieved the next installment of my Annie's Hook & Needle Kit Club. It's for a teddy bear. This is totally something that I would not normally make if I hadn't gotten the kit from this club. It's super cute.
I decided to frog the Crochet Today sweater that I was making. The yarn and pattern just weren't going to work together. I have to find another use for the yarn....we shall see.
Herrshcners is so great, I ordered more yarn b/c the sale was irresistable. I found an online coupon and that's great too. I've also been commissioned to make another Thumbkin Frog. They are really cute and easy. I sincerely enjoyed making it. I also finished a purse....simple envelope style. I basically crocheted a rectangle and then sewed up the bottom 2/3 of it to create the pouch. I may attach some buttons, or great brave and add some crochet embroidery. I will include pictures when it's officially complete.
I just got my two Interweave crochet issues, the Winter and Spring. I've excitedly looked thorugh them and plans are dancing through my head....so we shall see.
My wedding plans are still toddling along. We are going to fly down to the Keys in May to check out some venues and locations. We also want to make sure that the weather will be nice for that time of year.
I will be back very soon with some updated objects.

Planning....

I started planning my wedding....we have been dragging our feet slightly because of all the issues surrounding our engagement. I hate to use this as a complaining spot, but just to be clear about my situation. Rob is Jewish and I am not. This is the basis of the problems we are having, and only from his family. I guess their own selfish needs are more important than his future...what can I say?
Anyways, we are trying to work around this little snafu by planning a type of destination wedding with a very very liberal Rabbi.
Right now we are looking at the Florida keys or Harbour Island in the Bahamas. I'm excited by either of these prospects, with the keys being more practical for us and our family members who would want to attend the ceremony.
All ideas, comments, and suggestions are welcome. Right now we are looking for an officiate, a location and trying to see if things will be open on the date we have chose, May 20, 2010.

Crochet/Knit Stuff: I have been working on my St St Blanket. That's about all at the moment and it's being worked on b/c it's suitably mindless. I want to just finish it and I have about a foot left and I think it shouldn't take too much longer. I'm very happy to be almost complete with my first "big" knit project. I've also been working on my scrap hexagon afghan. I think that will take a long long time to finish b/c I plan on only really using scraps. So, as I generate scrap yarn, I will make the hexagons and add them to the blanket. Right now I have about 12 hexagons complete and attached. I'm excited b/c it looks so ridiculous. I really really want to start a new knit project, but I think I will wait until I, at least, finish the st st blanket.
